Hello friends! As some of you may or may not know, for the last few years I have been living in Sydney, pouring my heart and soul into a degree in Nutritional Medicine (BHSc Nutr).

Nutritional and Dietary medicine for those that aren’t aware teaches the evidence-based anatomy, pathophysiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, nutritional therapy, planning and counselling skills required to safely prescribe and support an individual on their own unique health journey. With this degree, I look forward to being part of the emerging community of health professionals with a holistic approach to health, who are passionate about using their qualifications and expertise to address the underlying causes of dysfunction, seeking preventative measures, whilst managing both acute and chronic conditions.

I’ll admit that I’ve been very hesitant to start this little project of mine for a long time… the health and wellness space (in particular on social media) is an area that to be perfectly honest at the moment really scares me. I’ve actually had this all made and ready to go for the last six months. I’ve just not had the balls to do anything with it. But something shifted this week and if not now, when? So here we go!

With a continuously increasing number of self-proclaimed health gurus born online whose nutritional qualification are nothing more than being able to take a great food flat lay, or at best a couple of months online course, I really feel we need to tackle the new culture of online influencers developing as authorities on nutrition and health. While they are doing no wrong by encouraging healthy eating, with their immeasurable influence on followers, there really needs to be some responsibility taken with what they are sharing. I feel far more education needs to be in place to ensure that those we are looking to for ‘inspiration’ for anything health-related are doing so safely and with suitable qualifications.

In light of this.. ‘Health & Healing' grew from a desire to share with you my current education and experiences with those who are interested in looking a bit deeper in order to learn more about our amazing bodies. I can assure you that I will never stop learning and can promise you that I will never share any fad-filled nonsense. Even if this page helps just one person start to navigate the mind field that is nutrition, the hours spent tediously staring at this screen trying to build this website will all be worth it!

This is still extremely new and very much a work in progress but I was so proud of myself that I’ve finally plucked up the courage to do this. As I come to the end of my degree, I plan to be a lot more proactive with this space, but for now, I’m going to do my best to add a little something in the form of blogs, research articles and myth-busting where I can in between my studies and clinical practice. There’s a couple of posts on here to get you started.

And lastly, just a little thank you to my beautiful friends (you know who you are) who helped me pull this together. I'm very scared that I’m going to have to start taking pictures of things other than coastlines and my dog now!
