Motivation: What You Need To Know

I’m going to share the only bit of motivation advice you need this year…


MOTIVATION AND BEHAVIOUR CHANGE DO NOT WORK IN THE ORDER THAT MOST PEOPLE THINK THEY DO 


Contrary to popular belief, motivation does NOT cause behavioural change.


... Rather, behaviour change shifts motivation.


The people who succeed in all areas of life, be it health, weight loss, business… all have one thing in common.


They make changes and take action without waiting to be motivated.


This is particularly true for weight loss, with a recent qualitative weight loss study reinforcing this for us. 


The study showed that the participants who just started and did the work without worrying about motivation reported better self-adherence, self-efficacy and motivation the longer they went and guess what? Had greater weight loss over a prolonged period. 


So, you can let motivation control you or you can control it. The only way forward is to start, including the things you don’t like or want to start and I guarantee you will end up becoming more motivated over time.


Motivation is fickle and if you only take action when it’s there… well, you won’t get very far or may not end up even starting at all.
